Known informally as beng bengs or sanbengzi, these three-wheelers have long carried vegetables, packages, tools and passengers. They are not glamorous, but they are affordable, agile and easy to operate.
One tricycle became an online celebrity after an American content creator bought it as a Christmas gift for her father-in-law. Viewers laughed at its cheerful Chinese reversing message, but they also noticed that the little vehicle was surprisingly useful. As the video spread, overseas dealers began contacting its manufacturer.
